I've never seen such a big turtle out and about like this. I've only ever seen them in zoos. I knew enough to keep Dexter well away. The turtle pulled its head in when Dexter and I came along, so we stood back a bit and the turtle started walking. Using the zoom on my camera, I shot this video:
I'm such a nature geek. I find it very exciting. I only hope the turtle got safely home again.
Sort of like a cross between a dinosaur and a tank...
ReplyDeleteI love turtles. They just amaze me.
Wow, that's big!
ReplyDeleteThose guys are amazing, aren't they? Here's a pic of the one that turns up near our house sometimes:

I haven't seen Snappy in the pond yet this spring. Perhaps he ran away to London!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's an OLD one! DH says thank you for the video. Neat!
ReplyDeleteI love your voice.
there's something prehistoric about that one.
ReplyDeleteAnd I laughed when you told Dexter to "leave it". That's the exact phrase I used to use with my dear departed corgi, Griffin.
I found an old guy like that on the road near the cottage one year, a gentleman coming in the opposite direction stopped to help me, we left our cars to block traffic & used a paddle in my trunk to pull him off the road, over to the side with the pond which he promptly dropped the paddle & headed for.
ReplyDeleteI imagine it will be okay. It didn't get that large by being stupid.
ReplyDeleteLoved hearing your voice and Dexter's panting!
Cool! Reminds me of Jurassic Park for some reason. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was probably laying eggs in the sand and burying them.
ReplyDeletetid bit!! Female turtles have long tails - mails have longer front legs. . . and claws. You see where this is heading right?
ReplyDeleteWhen they wander it's usually because they have a belly full of eggs. I hope she found some where comfortable to her to lay.
