Good News, Bad News

When there's good news and bad news I like to give the bad news first and follow up with the good news.  It's like taking a nasty medicine and following that up with a spoonful of sugar, letting the sweet taste minimize the bad taste in your mouth.

Well, this week I got some pretty bad news.  I was let go from my job as a technical writer as part of a cost reduction in the company.  I've been with the same company for close to seven years and I'm going to miss all the great people I worked with.  On the positive side, I received a good severance package that includes outplacement counseling and I'll be starting that on Monday.  I've decided to treat this as an opportunity and so I'm looking forward to the counseling as an opportunity to re-evaluate my career.

Now, for the good news.  I finished my yoked pullover and I love it!

Now doesn't that put a smile on your face?

  1. I love the sweater. That yoke is absolutely perfect.

And as for the good news with the severance package - been there, experienced that (more than once) and will pass on the wisdom:

    Kiss today goodbye,
    And point me towards tomorrow!

In a year, when you look back, you'll be so glad that someone pushed you into the next stage of your life.

  9. Bummer about the job. May the next one be better!

Love the sweater. Perfection. The fit is excellent! Looks comfortable and flattering, and that neck ribbing is exactly right. Like the way the forearms fit, too -- and the ease in the elbows. The transition to the welt -- all the hot spots are so smooth. Good work!

  15. Your yoked sweater looks fabulous and you look fabulous in it!

The job thing is a real blow, I realize, but your positive attitude will help you out quite a lot. In "bad" circumstances, I always think: Now, what can I learn from this?
